OUT OF STATE DRIVERS

FLORIDA IS A MEMBER OF THE DRIVER’S LICENSE COMPACT AND THE NON-RESIDENT VIOLATORS COMPACT. UNDER THE THE NON RESIDENT VIOLATORS COMPACT, THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES IS REQUIRED TO COMMUNICATE WITH OTHER MEMBER STATES WHEN A NON-FLORIDA RESIDENT GETS A TRAFFIC TICKET IN FLORIDA. IN ADDITION, THE FLORIDA DMV HAS AGREED TO CONSIDER THAT ALL DRIVERS HAVE ONLY ONE DRIVER’S LICENSE RECORD UNDER THE DRIVER’S LICENSE COMPACT.

THESE ARE ALL REPORTED THROUGH THE NATIONAL DRIVER REGISTRY.

IT’S NOT UNCOMMON FOR VACATIONERS TO VISIT FLORIDA AND GET ARRESTED FOR DUI. EVEN THOUGH YOU MAY BE LICENSED IN ANOTHER STATE, IF YOU ARE ARRESTED FOR DUI IN FLORIDA THE PROCEDURES USED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT ARE THE SAME AS THOSE MOTORISTS LICENSED IN FLORIDA. SO EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE BEEN ARRESTED FOR DUI IN FLORIDA, AND YOU ARE LICENSED OUT OF STATE, YOUR HOME STATE MAY BECOME AWARE OF YOUR DUI ARREST.  REMEMBER DMV OFFICES SHARE INFORMATION BETWEEN STATES PURSUANT TO THE NATIONAL DRIVER REGISTRY.

A CONVICTION IN FLORIDA FOR DUI CAN SUSPEND YOUR LICENSE IN YOUR HOME STATE AND YOU MAY BE SUBJECT TO YOUR HOME STATE PENALTIES IN ADDITION TO ALL THE OTHER PENALTIES THAT FLORIDA REQUIRES.
